Maya came to WVRC’s Oncology service after her primary veterinarian had detected changes in her lungs. Due to a fever, dehydration, and difficulty breathing, Maya was admitted to the hospital for treatment and monitoring. Upon further examination, Dr. Custead found that Maya had advanced stage lymphoma, which affected her lymph nodes, lungs, liver, and spleen.
Because of the advanced stage of cancer, Maya was at a high risk for complications so Dr. Custead started with a treatment that would slowly kill the cancer cells before moving to personalized chemotherapy protocol. Thankfully, Maya’s lymph nodes shrunk dramatically after her first dose and she continued to do well throughout the chemotherapy treatments. Maya is now doing fabulous and is cancer free!! Way to go Maya!!
