A-A Luxation

This cutie is Saylor, a 1-year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. She came to us with intense neck pain, walking stiffly, and difficulty getting comfortable. Because she did not respond to rest and pain medications, further diagnostic testing was necessary. The CT showed an A-A luxation (instability and separation of vertebrae 1 & 2 in the neck). Saylor underwent surgery by Dr. Evans to stabilize the vertebrae. Saylor was in a splint for multiple weeks post surgery with reduced activity. Her owner did a wonderful job taking care of her at home. After several rechecks and bandage changes, Saylor is now pain-free and fully recovered!
